COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – There was a farewell gathering yesterday at the Coldwater State Police Post, which will be closing to the public early next month but remain open for the MSP troopers who will continue to use the building as a location from which to serve and patrol the Branch County area. The changeover for Coldwater from a post to a detachment location follows the recent opening in Marshall of a Regional Law Enforcement facility, where the State Police have set up a command center. It also will be home to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department and Marshall City Police.
The Coldwater Post opened in 1981 after the shutdown of the Post in Tekonsha, which was set up in 1965 in advance of the first traffic on I-69 in Michigan two years later. More than a dozen retired State Police officers including several past Coldwater Post Commanders attended yesterday’s event along with current troopers and other members of law enforcement agencies in Branch County.
Representing the State Police headquarters from Lansing was Deputy MSP Director Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Sands, who saluted the Coldwater community for its support of the State Police over the years.
