COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports, Monday in girls golf, Coldwater had a runner up finish with the ten teams that competed in the Onsted Invitational at the Devil’s Lake Golf Course. The Lady Cardinal’s second place score was 429 with the Adrian Madison A-team winning the tournament with a 372. Leading the way for Coldwater was Madison Donbrock with a 103, Claire Sheppard had a 106, Gabriel Boston shot a 109, Jayla Goodwin carded a 111, and Molly Smith rounded out the scoring with a 138.
Coldwater’s JV team played Monday in the Lakeview JV Invitational at the Cedar Farms Golf Course and came in 6th place out of 7 teams with Emma Beckhusen leading the way with a 109.
Yesterday in boys tennis, Coldwater swept to victory at Harper Creek, beating the Beavers 8-0. Winners for the Cardinals were Javier Perez-Marsa at first singles, Nate Waterbury at second singles, Kumaran Arivoli at third singles and Porter Skidmore at fourth singles while the doubles winners were Nolan Duda and Austin Butler at first doubles, Shane O’Grady and Kam Miller at second doubles, Nick Galliers and Christian Pine at third doubles, and Evan Henry and Mitchell Duda at fourth doubles.
Today in high school sports, in boys soccer, it’s Coldwater at home against Parma Western for an Interstate 8 Conference match and the first ever soccer game on the new Cardinal Stadium artificial turf. It’s also AYSO Youth Soccer Night with free admission for kids who wear their soccer jerseys. The JV match starts at 5 p.m. with the Varsity to follow at 6:45 p.m. Coldwater is ranked #12 this week in the latest Division 2 poll from the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association.
In volleyball, it’s Quincy at Jonesville while Union City is at Athens. Also in volleyball, Bronson has moved up from second to first in the state in this week’s Coaches Association Class-C poll. And in cross country, Coldwater runs at the Pennfield Jamboree while Union City has a dual meet at Colon.
In football, undefeated Coldwater is once again Division Three honorable mention in the second weekly poll of the season by the Michigan Associated Press. The 4-and-0 Cardinals play Friday night at Jackson Northwest.
