SHERWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Two motorcyclists, one from Union City, the other whose hometown was Battle Creek, were killed last night, in a head on collision in Branch County. The wife of the Union City man who was riding with her husband, was seriously injured and flown from the scene in Sherwood Township by Aircare to Bronson hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment. The accident in the far northwest corner of the county happened around 8:40 p.m. on Mendon Road near Ralston Road.
Michigan State Police identified the fatal victims as 47-year old Patrick Adkins of Union City and 29-year old Ryan Sullivan. Kerri Adkins, also 47, and her husband were wearing helmets. Sullivan did not have a helmet on. State Police say the Adkins woman had serious injuries to her left leg and troopers along with passersby who stopped to assist helped apply a tourniquet. The crash remains under investigation but State Police say it appears the Adkins motorcycle had crossed the centerline causing the accident.
