Melvin Arnold “Mel” Morrill, 65, of Coldwater, passed away unexpectedly at home Wednesday, May 27, 2020 following several years of declining health.
A public graveside service will be held at a later date at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater. The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation of Union City.
Mel was born March 27, 1955 in Coldwater, Michigan to James and Patricia (Arnold) Morrill. He graduated from Coldwater High School in 1974 and went on to attend Kellogg Community College, where he studied accounting and business.
Mel lived in Coldwater the majority of his life. He worked as an attendant at the Coldwater Regional Center and owned a carpet cleaning business for many years.
Sports were Mel’s greatest interest. He played city recreation league softball and basketball and golfed at Turtle Creek in Burlington. He was a Detroit Tigers fan and enjoyed watching TV sports and TV in general.
Although he was quiet and tended to be a loner, Mel could be a jokester. He enjoyed the companionship of his cats and dogs and when he was in better health he always had his yard looking good.
Mel is survived by his mother, Pat Morrill of Coldwater; his brothers, John (Cathleen) Morrill, Robert (Shelley) Morrill and Richard Morrill, all of Coldwater; his sister, Pamela (Bill) Cook of North Baltimore, OH; nieces and nephews, John Morrill, Jr., Leslie Stumpf, Robbie Morrill, Bryant Morrill, Bethany Fenske, Joylyn Snyder, Paula Miller and Andrea Johns; and 12 great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
