COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Wings Etc. Grill and Pub at 599 East Chicago in Coldwater closed for good at the end of business on Wednesday night.
A notice of “Location Closed!” was posted on the business web site and employees apparently found out about the closing when they showed up for work on Thursday.
Owners Gene and Robert Harrison said in a social media post that they “have been unable to recover from the challenges the past few years brought on. Thank you to those that frequented our store and allowed us to serve you. We are forever thankful for your support and ask that you give us and our staff time to process this change.”
The closing of the restaurant comes as plans continue to move forward for a proposed Exclusive Brands Marijuana Retail Establishment on the property.
A Landscaping Plan for the property is scheduled to come before the Coldwater Planning Commission on Monday night.
The Planning Commission approved a Special Use Permit for the proposed marijuana business in an area zoned C-4 General Business District last August.
The Commission has to approve the Landscaping Plan before any building or site development permissions can be issued by city administrative staff.
Architect Cody Newman from Driven Design of Battle Creek said during the August meeting that plans call for most of the restaurant to be converted into the marijuana business.
Wings Etc. opened in the former Benedict’s Steakhouse building in March of 2018 as part of an expansion of the business in the State of Michigan.
