TOPEKA, IN (WTVB) – Tragedy last night in northeast Indiana with the death of an infant girl and serious injuries for two youngsters after a car rear-ended their horse drawn buggy north of Topeka in LaGrange County.
Authorities say the fatal victim was an 11-month-old girl who along with a 2-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl were all ejected from the buggy in the collision on County Road 600 West north of County Road 400 South. The accident occurred around 10:30 last night. A news release from the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department said the car was driven by Caleb Wingard of Topeka. His age wasn’t provided but preliminary charges facing Wingard include minor in possession of alcohol, speed too fast to avoid a collision, and following too closely.
Deputies have not yet named the driver of the buggy nor released the identities of the three victims in the accident.
