KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Western Michigan University is stiffening its COVID-19 vaccination policy.
The university over the weekend announced that students, faculty and staff who are eligible for COVID-19 booster shots will need to receive their booster doses in order to be considered fully vaccinated or they will have to undergo weekly tests.
Students who are not considered fully vaccinated will be fined for each test they miss.
University officials said effective January 17, any student, faculty and staff member must have received a booster shot, if they are eligible, in order to be deemed fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Being eligible for a booster shot means the person received a second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine at least six months ago or received the singled-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least two months ago.
University students, faculty and staff who are eligible for the booster shot, but do not have their verified booster dose on record by January 17, must get free weekly tests at the North Kohrman Hall testing center starting the week of January 24,
For students who are not fully vaccinated, missing each mandatory weekly test will be fined.
