SHERMAN TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A 29-year-old man from Sturgis was airlifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo on Monday evening after his sport bike crashed near Glen Oaks Community College.
The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department say the crash happened at about 5:50 p.m. on Shimmel Road near Storms Road.
An investigation showed that the southbound motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed as the driver tried to pass multiple vehicles.
At which time another south bound vehicle made a left hand turn into Glen Oaks Community College. The motorcycle driver left the road to avoid a collision and lost control in the ditch.
The unidentified driver was conscious and alert upon first responder’s arrival but showed signs of a head injury.
The Sheriff’s Department says he was wearing a helmet.
The Sheriff’s department was assisted on scene by fire departments from Centreville and Three Rivers and West Michigan Aircare.
