COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It was reported during Wednesday’s Branch County 911 Communications Board meeting the new 800 megahertz emergency radio system is getting ready to go on line. Plans call for it to be fully functional by the end of March.
Coldwater Fire Chief Dave Schmaltz said after training is completed this week, Branch County fire departments will switch to the 800 system on Monday morning.
He said in his report “so far, so good” adding that the coverage during tests has been outstanding.
Branch County 911 Director Bob Swick said the consoles at Central Dispatch have been put in.
He added they have also been performing tests on the new equipment.
There was a glitch switching the Coldwater tornado sirens to the new consoles. It maybe spring before that work can be performed.
The project is designed to improve signals and communications for police, firefighters and rescue crews. Branch County voters approved a phone surcharge in November of 2020 to help fund the $9.3 million project.
