COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Michigan Department of Transportation Engineer told the Branch County Board of Commissioners during their work session Thursday that they have construction plans for U.S. 12 on the west side of Coldwater but not until 2023.
Engineer and Project Manager Cory Hackworth told commissioners they plan to perform work at that time from the bridge over the Coldwater River to Western Avenue.
He said the project would include a sidewalk on the north side of U.S. 12.
There would also be work on Coldwater River bridge that would improve pedestrian safety. Hackworth said there would be a replacement of the railing and there would be a barrier on the north side that would be between the traffic and pedestrians.
Hackworth admitted the stretch of U.S. 12 from Michigan Avenue to Quincy is not in an ideal condition.
While it’s considered a high priority item by M.D.O.T. and they have put a cost estimate together in hopes work can be done in a timely manner, Hackworth said as of now it is not in their program.
