Hazel May Bowerman, 91, of Union City, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, surrounded by family, under the care of Elara Caring Hospice.
A funeral service will be held Friday, March 18, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. the Union City Wesleyan Church, 202 St. Joseph Street, with Pastor Marty Burdick officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. at Lakeview Cemetery in Quincy, also Friday, March 18.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 17, 2022 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation, 1276 Tate Trail, in Union City.
Hazel was born December 9, 1930 in Tekonsha, Michigan to Harry and Gladys (Clifford) Stuck. She graduated from Coldwater High School in 1949 and moved to Union City in 1963. She married Virgil Bowerman in 1981. They resided in the Union City area until her death.
Hazel worked at American Woodcraft in Union City and attended the Union City Wesleyan Church, where she was treasurer for many years. She volunteered with her husband often for church projects and church camp.
Hazel enjoyed fishing, hunting, and helping her husband on the farm; traveling, going to the Gospel Barn and having her family for dinner; playing games with her friends and family, and playing the piano.
Hazel is survived by her husband, Virgil Bowerman; children, William G. (Dell) Cook of Union City, Linda (Jeff) Carter of Battle Creek, Raymond E. (MaryAnn) Cook, Jr. of Quincy, Deborah Camp of Fort Wayne, IN, David A. Cook of Union City, Jerry L. (Amy) Cook of Urbana, IL, Robert W. (Sherry) Cook of Union City and Sheryl L. Harrington of Angola, IN; step-children, William (Lisa) Bowerman of Quincy and Sally Davis of Union City; brother-in-law Richard “Dick” Blanchard of Homeland, CA; 31 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 47 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Harry and Gladys Stuck; brothers: Orville J. Clifford and Robert L Stuck; sister: Mary Blanchard; daughter: Judy K. Cook; granddaughter: Melissa Durbin; grandson: Rickie Shires; and sons-in-law: Steve Harrington and Carnie Camp.
