COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It’s a time of concern for much of the Coldwater area’s Arabic community, which moved to the U.S. from Yemen. The U.S. Navy has an aircraft carrier and a guided missile destroyer off the coast of Yemen, reportedly ready to block weapon shipments from Iran to Shiite rebels in Yemen.
7th District Congressman Tim Walberg earlier this month toured the Persian Gulf area. Walberg has been critical of President Barack Obama for what the President said during his State of the Union address in January when he described Yemen as an example of a foreign policy success and instead, according to Walberg, everything fell apart after that and is now totally unstable.
Iran is supporting Houthi rebels who have driven the U.S.-backed Yemeni government from the capital. Nine Navy ships are now patrolling the waters off Yemen.
