COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Before the snow started to fly Saturday evening, there was a structure fire Saturday morning in Coldwater Township with a minor injury. The Coldwater Fire Department was called shortly before 8 a.m. to 321 Jonesville Road. They arrived to find a blaze in the attached garage of the two-story residence owned and occupied by Tom Whitely. The fire was contained to the garage. There was some smoke damage to the main living areas.
Whitely’s wife smelled smoke and discovered the flames in the garage. Whitely suffered mild smoke inhalation but did not go to the hospital for treatment. The family dog was revived from smoke inhalation using a pet O2 mask.
The cause of the fire was an overloaded extension cord in the garage. The Coldwater Fire Department was on scene for ninety minutes.
