BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Chargers used a pair of exciting victories to capture the M.H.S.A.A. Division Three baseball district championship on Saturday in Bronson.
The Chargers needed nine innings to defeat the Bronson Vikings 2-1 in the semifinals and then scored three runs in the top of the seventh to defeat Homer 7-5 in the finals.
Wade Hoffman was the winning pitcher against the Vikings. Hoffman and Jakob Fosmore both had two hits for the Chargers. Owen Kimmons had two hits for Bronson.
Hoffman earned the win in relief against Homer. Ryan Zweng and Hoffman both drove in two runs for the Chargers.
Homer advanced to the finals with a 6-5 win over Quincy as the Orioles rally in the final inning fell short.
Hunter Tinervia had three hits for the Orioles. Karsen Maurer had a two-run double. Quincy finished the season with a record of 16-14.
Union City is now 20-8. They will face Hudson in a regional semifinal game at Bronson on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m..
