KINDERHOOK TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A portion of Old U.S. 27 in southern Branch County had to be shut down late Monday afternoon following a crash that the Branch County Sheriff’s Department says involved a speeding vehicle.
It was initially dispatched by Branch County Communications as a personal injury accident at 5:15 p.m..
The Sheriff’s Department says according to witnesses, a southbound 2014 Chevrolet SUV driven by 22-year-old Alec Kamden Heuer of Coldwater was passing other vehicles at a high rate of speed in a no passing zone.
The driver is reported to have lost control, ran off the road and struck trash containers, a power pole and a tree.
Garbage from two containers was strewn across Old U.S. 27 near Southern Road.
A three-year-old girl was a passenger in the SUV.
Heuer was not wearing a seatbelt while the child was in a child seat.
They were both taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital for treatment.
The Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate.
Branch County Sheriff Deputies were assisted at the scene by Life Care Ambulance as well as the Lakeland and Coldwater Fire Departments.
