COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In an effort to help county employees who use their personal vehicles as part of their job, the Branch County Board of Commissioners approved a request from Administrator Bud Norman on Tuesday for a temporary ten percent increase to the 2022 mileage rate.
It’s currently at .585 per mile and the action came after several departments voiced concerns due to increased fuel costs.
The approved new rate of .645 per mile goes into effect on July 1 and will last through the end of the year.
Commissioner Tom Mathew felt with gas prices likely to go higher, the rate should be at .65 per mile but Commission Chair Tim Stoll said the original proposal was good enough for now.
It will be re-evaluated after six months or perhaps sooner depending on which direction gas prices go.
