COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A new five-year agreement for fire and emergency response service between the City of Coldwater and Coldwater Township was approved Monday night by both the Coldwater City Council and the Coldwater Township Board.
Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker said the agreement called for the Township to pay an initial fee of $120,000 with three percent increases for the remaining four years.
He added there were some late changes to the agreement.
The township has also agreed to forego the one-third of the fire protection payment from the State as part of its proposed compensation to the City.
Baker said the contract has been negotiated for several months.
Coldwater Mayor Tom Kramer recommended the agreement be adopted.
The City provides fire suppression and emergency response services to both Girard and Coldwater Townships.
The former agreement between the City of Coldwater and Coldwater Township expired on June 30, 2022.
