ALBION, MI (WTVB) – Albion Public Safety is investigating the vandalism of several downtown buildings which included the spray painting of two Swastika symbols on the window of an empty store front..
A news release from the city did not say if the vandalism was connected to Donald Trump being elected president but there has been an increase in the number of racial threats throughout Michigan since he won the White House. The Michigan Department of Civil Rights has fielded more calls than normal over the last week.
Albion City Manager Sheryl Mitchell says the city is a very diverse community and that ethnic and racial intimidation has no place there.
Albion College President Mauri Ditzler says they resent and reject the expressions of hatred. Albion College’s Office of Campus Safety has increased patrols on campus.
