GIRARD, MI (WTVB) – A pile of burning leaves too close to a structure is being cited as the reason behind a Friday night fire which heavily damaged a Girard Township garage and destroyed a boat and other contents inside.
Coldwater Fire Chief Rich Sherman says the blaze at the John Koverman property at 742 North Hawley Drive was reported at about 8:00 p.m.
Firefighters found a large garage heavily involved in fire with a nearby garage and boat also being threatened by the flames.
Sherman says quick action by firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to other nearby structures.
Another garage and a nearby boat received minor damage.
Firefighters were on scene for an hour and 45 minutes. No injuries were reported.
