COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners approved a request from Sheriff John Pollack Tuesday to replace 15 bullet proof vests for his deputies.
The life span of the vests is five years and the total cost to replace them would be about $13,800.
A grant has been applied for to help cover the costs the department was approved to get over $6,800.
Pollack says two of the vests at a cost of over $1,800 can be paid for out of the Salvage Fund with the Range Fund picking up over $5,100 of the remaining cost.
The Sheriff requested the county cover the amount of the grant so the vests can be ordered and the county will be reimbursed once the grant money is received.
Commissioners also approved two percent wage increases for non union management and employees, which would be effective on January 1, 2017.
