FREMONT, IN (WTVB) – The Branch County Sheriff’s Department assisted police in Indiana Wednesday in helping to look for the driver of a stolen car who struck a pedestrian in Fremont and then fled.
The pedestrian was hit at about 12:20 p.m. on Evans Drive west of Wayne Street. The injured pedestrian was found laying on the ground in a yard.
The vehicle involved in the incident was later found north of Angola at the Budgeteer Motel and was found to be stolen out of Michigan. The driver and a passenger fled on foot. A search was conducted using two Police K-9’s and the two persons were later found.
The driver, 37-year-old Nathan Caudill of Constantine, was taken to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office for incarceration, He was preliminarily charged with Leaving the scene of a personal injury accident , Possession of methamphetamine and receiving stolen property.
The passenger was released from the scene and not charged.
The pedestrian that was struck was flown from the scene by Samaritan Helicopter to a Fort Wayne Hospital for treatment of their injuries. The name of the person who was struck was not released.
