QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Village Council approved a five year contract between the Village and the Quincy Police Department’s new K-9 handler on Tuesday night.
The contract calls for Randi Lemaster to serve as the K-9 handler starting on January 1, 2023.
She would take over for the previous handler Erin Hamilton-Crites who recently left the Quincy Police Department.
The Village Council reinstated the police canine unit about two years ago and Village Manager Brittany Butler said it was felt the program should continue.
Butler says the new K-9 who will be on the job on January 1 after undergoing training is named Tyson.
The contract calls for the handler to be a full time officer. The handler will also care for the police dog and train it.
In the event that the handler wants to keep the canine after termination or resignation, the handler will pay the Village of Quincy a prorated price for the canine depending on the handler’s years of service.
