COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A dense blanket of Canadian wildfire smoke has swept into Southern Michigan, triggering widespread Air Quality Alerts as conditions continue degrade.
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy extended a statewide advisory through today, warning residents that high levels of fine particulate matter are settling into area.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s AirNow network has downgraded air quality across the bottom half of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula to levels deemed “unhealthy for sensitive groups,” with some areas verging into fully unhealthy territory.
Health officials are urging children, older adults, and individuals with respiratory illnesses like asthma or COPD to strictly limit prolonged outdoor exertion.
