COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Administrator Bud Norman told the Board of Commissioners during their work session on Thursday that the county’s proposed 2023 general fund budget is balanced.
Norman presented his fourth draft of the proposed budget to Commissioners after the initial draft in September showed a deficit of $3.4 million.
The proposed budget is based on departmental budget hearings in late August and early September. This year’s deficit was about $300,000 more than when the first draft was presented last year.
Norman told Commission Chair Tim Stoll there would be no additional staff.
But there was one additional appropriation in this year’s budget….
Norman said in September when the first draft was presented that the county is facing several revenue challenges.
He pointed out expense challenges included equipment and maintenance costs along with the elimination of the Tier Two pay scale.
Commissioners are scheduled to formally adopt the budget next month.
