COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – You may have noticed in recent days some work is taking place at 22 West Chicago which used to be the Smit-T’s store and the Music Mart in downtown Coldwater.
The Italianate style building was constructed in 1894. It is located next to the Coldwater Executive Suites which used to be Coldwater City Hall.
When questioned about the work being done during Monday night’s Coldwater Planning Commission meeting, City Planning Director Dean Walrack said building owners Bill and Cheryl Flickinger got approval several years ago to perform restoration work.
The Flickingers have also restored a home on East Chicago that used to belong to Gene and Louise Wallace.
They got approval in 2018 from the city’s Historic District Commission for the rehabilitation and structural stabilization of the front façade.
