Richard Lyle “Dick” Bailey, 90, of Sherwood, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2022 at Medilodge of Portage.
A memorial service will be held at East Leroy Community Church Friday, December 16, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Kathy Jenkins officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by Lighthouse Funeral and Cremation, Union City.
Dick was born March 8, 1932 in Fulton, Michigan to Lyle H. and Doris R. (Wise) Bailey. He graduated from Athens High School in 1950 and on May 19, 1951, he married the former June L. Cleaver in Athens. She survives. Dick worked as a truck driver for Clark Equipment in Battle Creek and at Simpson Paper in Vicksburg. He also farmed.
He enjoyed horse racing and harness racing, and was a member of the Harness Racing Club for 26 years. Dick also liked fishing, hunting, trapping and fox hunting, along with repairing automobiles. He attended the North Athens Baptist Church and East Leroy Community Church.
In addition to June, his wife of 71 years, Dick is survived by his children, Peggy (John) Zinsmaster of Athens, Rick (Linda) Bailey of Athens and Sheri (Jim) Galli of Sherwood; daughter-in-law, Susin Bailey of Florida; grandchildren, Scott Lane, Brian Lane, Derick Bailey, Michelle Bailey, Don Bailey, Brian Bailey and Victor Galli; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a sister, Dorothy “Dotty” (LeRoy) Snyder of Athens.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Tim Bailey; a sister, Louise (Jerry) Cupp; and grandsons, BJ Lane and Jason Bailey.
Memorial donations are suggested to the East Leroy Community Church, 4502 L Drive South, East Leroy, MI 49051.
