TEKONSHA TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A two vehicle crash involving a passenger vehicle and a semi tractor trailer on I-69 near Tekonsha on Wednesday morning took the life of a 43-year-old Detroit man.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police post at Marshall are investigating the crash which took place at about 4:45 a.m. as Wednesday’s snow storm was starting to make area roads slick.
They say their preliminary investigation reveals that the driver of a Mercury passenger car was entering I-69 from the entry ramp when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The vehicle then struck a guard rail and spun in front of a semi-tractor trailer traveling southbound on I-69 which was driven by a 44-year-old man from Toledo, Ohio.
The driver of the Mercury was pronounced dead at the scene. State Police say the evidence indicated he was not wearing his seat belt.
The driver of the semi was uninjured and all indicators suggest he was wearing his seat belt.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by Tekonsha Fire, MAFA ambulance and Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.
