JONESVILLE, MI (WTVB) – Jonesville Community Schools were forced to dismiss students early on Wednesday after a physical threat was made via text message against a middle school staff member.
It was later determined the threat was false.
Jonesville Department of Public Safety Director Kurt Etter said in a video posted on the Hillsdale Daily News Facebook page that officers from four agencies responded after the threat was reported.
All of the district schools went into what is called a “hard lock down”.
The Michigan State Police Cyber Crimes Division eventually determined the text message to the staff member was sent from outside the United States.
District officials decided to dismiss classes in all of the buildings at 11:30 a.m. as a precautionary measure.
Etter added there will be an increased police presence at the schools for the rest of the week.
