COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The American Red Cross has issued an emergency call for blood and platelets as they urge all eligible donors to give now in order to replenish what they are calling an extremely low summer blood supply.
Officials say blood donations have fallen short of hospital needs for the past few months which has resulted in about 39,000 fewer donations than what’s needed.
The Independence Day holiday may have caused many regular donors to postpone donations due to vacation plans.
There is a blood drive going on today (Tuesday) at the Coldwater Eagles Lodge until 4:15 p.m.
Another blood drive will be held next Monday, July 11, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Quincy from 12 noon until 5:45 p.m.
To schedule an appointment to donate, use the free Blood Donor App, visit www.redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Donors with all blood types are needed.
