STEUBEN COUNTY, IN (WTVB) – The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help as they are looking for a man who has been charged in connection with a double fatal traffic crash last August just south of the Michigan-Indiana state line.
The Sheriff’s Office said in a press release issued Tuesday afternoon that 51-year-old Donald Gene Squires of rural Howe, Indiana could possibly be in the Bronson area after an arrest warrant was issued by Steuben Superior Court on January 27.
Squires has been charged with two counts of Operating While Intoxicated causing Death and one count of OWI causing Catastrophic Injury. All three alleged offenses are level four felonies in the State of Indiana.
The arrest warrant comes after several months of investigation into the crash that took place on State Road 120 near County Road 850 West just east of Orland, Indiana.
The crash claimed the lives of 43-year-old Lonnie Lee Bright and his 33-year-old wife Breanna of Long Beach Lake. The couple’s daughter Journey, who turned six-years-old a month after the crash, was badly injured and continues to recover.
The Sheriff’s Department said at the time of the crash last August that according to their preliminary crash scene investigation, a 2007 Nissan Titan pickup truck driven by Squires was traveling west on 120 when the vehicle went left of the center line and into the path of the eastbound Volkswagen passenger car which was driven by Lonnie Bright.
They say the two vehicles appeared to have collided nearly head-on.
Squires is described as a white male who is five-foot-seven-inches tall and weighs about 180 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes and may have a beard or goatee.
Squires also has an unrelated Steuben County arrest warrant for failure to appear on a misdemeanor theft allegation.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Donald Squires is asked to contact the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office at (260) 668-1000, extension 5000, Steuben County Crime Stoppers or your local law enforcement agency.
