COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater School Board approved amendments to the districts 2015-2016 budget and adopted the 2016-2017 budget during a special meeting on Thursday night.
Superintendent Terry Boguth said they will be getting an additional $120 per pupil from the state as part of the budget recently signed by Governor Snyder. It’s an increase since the Coldwater district is among the 400 lowest funded districts in the state.
She said health benefits are going up this year 9.8 percent but they will have to pay a tax for the first time.
Boguth said the district will have no layoffs in 2016-2017 and the fund equity for the district will increase by $1.3 million to over $5 million.
The tax rate will stay the same at 2.55 mills for three debt funds.
Boguth pointed out that the student population in the district has gone down from 3,312 in 2001 to 2,701 this year but she is expecting enrollment to go up next year.
