COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Early Bird Exchange Club of Coldwater is trying to raise awareness about child abuse in Branch County.
Over 200 American and child abuse flags will be on the hill at the Naomi Davis Shelter House on Michigan Avenue starting this Thursday and going through all of July.
Kim Hemker from the Branch County Coalition Against Domestic Violence says the Healing Hill will honor Branch County children who have either been abused or neglected.
Kim Willis from the Department of Health and Human Services in Branch County says they had to investigate nearly 600 cases last year with 178 of those cases being confirmed.
Statewide, there were over 24,000 confirmed cases of abuse last year.
A Healing Hill of Hope ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday.
Proceeds from the sponsorship of the flags and from the Exchange Club’s 29th annual Independence Day 5K run will go towards local child abuse prevention programs.
