UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Gavin Bunning’s layup with 1.5 seconds left in regulation off a missed Union City free throw pushed the Centreville Bulldogs to a 47-46 win over the Chargers in an MHSAA Division 3 Boys Basketball District Final at the McNett Fieldhouse.
Centreville enjoyed a 14-7 lead after the first quarter, but Union City came roaring back in the second, outscoring the Bulldogs 22-12 to take a 29-26 halftime lead. A defensive third quarter saw the Chargers with an 8-6 edge, increasing their lead to 37-32. In the final stanza, Centreville completed the comeback by outscoring UC 15-9. The Chargers’ bid to win on a half-court shot at the buzzer fell wide right.
Landon Galvin wrapped up his high school hoops career with a team-high 16 points and 3 rebounds, while Rick Austin had 8 points, 9 boards, 9 assists, and 2 steals. Union City, the last Branch County team left in this year’s tournament, finished its season with an 11-14 record.

Micah Lemings led all scorers with 20 points for Centreville, while Roman Robinson added 10. The Bulldogs improved to 17-7 and will face Lawton Monday in the Semifinals of the Division 3 Regional at Coloma. The Blue Devils advanced from the Hartford District with a 59-36 win over the host school.

Elsewhere, Battle Creek Central won the Division 1 District it hosted by beating upset-minded Harper Creek 44-32. Interstate 8 co-champion Marshall won the Division 2 Paw Paw District with a 63-48 win against Parchment. Big 8 champion Jonesville beat Hanover-Horton 54-36 to take the Division 3 Lumen Christi District. And Colon won the Division 4 District it hosted by beating Mendon 66-52.
