COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Plans for a new residential development in downtown Coldwater were announced at Monday’s City Council meeting.
As presented, the second and third floors of the Taylor’s Stationers building would be renovated to create 10 apartment units, with an additional 48 units located in a new complex to be built behind the Taylor’s building.
A parking deck would also be built, with public parking for businesses on the lower level and private parking for apartment residents on the upper level.
Ohio-based developer Excel Realty recently acquired the Taylor’s building and intends to market the first floor for commercial purposes.
Community Services Director and Assistant City Manager Keith Baker said Excel Realty is interested in acquiring the Milnes Plaza parking lot from the city in order to move the planned development forward.
Council directed city staff to move ahead with negotiations; a formal purchase proposal will be presented at a later date.
