QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Kurt Barve has announced he will be retiring as Quincy Fire Department Chief after 15 years of service on March 1st of next year. Barve plans to stay on during the transition. He has recommended to the Quincy Fire Association that his assistant Mike Sherman take over as Chief. Sherman’s uncle Rich is the Fire Chief in Coldwater.
Barve said in a statement posted on the Quincy Fire Department’s Facebook page that his life has become extremely busy and the time has come to pass the torch onto people who have the ability to continue building and operating the best fire department around.
He added it was a hard decision that he had been mulling for about a year. Barve noted that “it’s a balance”. He had been juggling a couple of businesses he owns and his children are getting older. While he said now was the time to do this, he will miss the job adding he enjoyed every minute of it.
Barve became Quincy Fire Chief in March of 2002.
