ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – Fugitive registered sex offender Samuel Brett Smith was taken into custody Friday evening without incident.
Just after 10:00 pm, the 25 year old from Angola was located and apprehended by the Angola Police Department in the 600 block of N Wayne St near Morse St. Angola Police were acting on a tip that was received and were able to locate Smith.
Smith was booked into the Steuben County Jail on one count of level 6 felony failure to register as a sex or violent offender. He remains held in lieu of a $2,500.00 bond.
The arrest warrant and criminal charges come after a Steuben County Sheriff’s Office investigation into allegations that Smith was not residing at his registered address as required by Indiana’s Sex and Violent Offender Registry law.
