ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office says they are trying to find a wanted registered sex offender.
An arrest warrant has been issued for 25-year-old Samuel Brett Smith on a felony charge of failure to register as a sex or violent offender.
The warrant was issued following a Sheriff’s Office investigation into allegations Smith failed to reside at his registered address and his exact whereabouts are unknown.
He maybe in the Angola area. Smith is described as a five-foot-seven white male who weighs about 155 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. Smith was last known to have facial hair.
Anyone with information on Samuel Smith’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office or Steuben County Crime Stoppers.
Meanwhile, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office said in Friday that an alleged non-compliant registered sex offender was taken into custody.
27-year-old Nathan Thomas Rhymer of Angola was taken into custody at the Sheriff’s Office on a warrant charging him with two felony counts of failure to register as a sex or violent offender following an interview with detectives.
The warrant came after a month long investigation into allegations that Rhymer failed to report required internet identifier information as well as other required information within the lawful time period.
Rhymer was booked into the Steuben County Jail. The Allen County Sheriff’s Office and Fort Wayne Police assisted the investigation.
