COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Equipment failure at the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Garfield Road substation is being blamed for a brief power outage Friday morning in Coldwater.
The CBPU says the equipment failure took place at 8:13 a.m. and caused a transformer to be taken out. The power was restored by 8:38 a.m. The outage affected about 2,000 customers.
Police had to direct traffic at intersections where traffic signals went out including the always busy intersection of U.S. 12 and Willowbrook Road until power was restored.
Coldwater firefighters were dispatched on several calls which turned out to be false alarms due to automatic alarms getting tripped by the outage.
Phone service at Coldwater City Hall was also affected.
