LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Calhoun County had the ninth highest amount of car-deer crashes in 2019 of all of the counties in Michigan according to data from the Michigan State Police.
Calhoun had a total of 1,195 deer-related crashes. Oakland County led the list with 1,928 crashes followed by Kent County and Jackson County.
With the days getting shorter, the Insurance Alliance of Michigan is once again tellers drivers to be alert for deer especially when they are most active during the hours of dusk and dawn. Most of these kind of crashes take place between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m..
They say over 1,400 people were injured and 12 were killed in over 55,000 deer related crashes in Michigan last year.
Branch County did not make the top ten list but still had a significant amount of deer related crashes with 848. Ovid Township had the most deer-related crashes with 98 in 2019. Coldwater Township and Quincy Township tied for second with 79 apiece.
