QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – A K-9 program maybe returning to the Quincy police department.
The Quincy Village Council gave Village Manager Brittany Butler permission on Tuesday night to start the process of putting together a five year contract after Quincy Police Officer Erin Hamilton-Crites expressed interest in having a K-9 program.
Officer Cody Longrey was the previous handler of K-9 Orin for a year-and-a-half but the Quincy K-9 program was discontinued in January of 2018 when Longrey accepted a position with the Coldwater Police Department.
Magnum K-9 would be donating the animal and various fundraising options are being explored.
Outside police agencies will be allowed to use the Quincy K-9 officer under terms of a draft ordinance.
