STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – Firefighters spent 2 1/2 hours battling a stubborn fire at the John B. Simpson Company at 1007 North Centerville Road early Friday morning just before 8 a.m.
The heat and smoke was so intense that firefighters were chased out of the interior and had to fight the flames from outside the building.
A backhoe belonging to the city was used to remove the sheet metal walls so that they could get at the flames.
Crews were on scene putting out hot spots until 1 p.m. The firm was a heating and air-conditioning repair business. There were no injuries. Damage estimates were unavailable. The cause of the fire is not known.
