COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A wide variety of weather went through southwest Michigan and parts of northern Indiana on Wednesday morning.
No severe watches or warnings were issued but a line of thunderstorms moved through Branch County during the 7:00am hour.
The storms produced lightning, rain, pea sized hail and ice pellets.
The calendar may say April 6th but it was cold enough in the Battle Creek area that the precipitation turned to ice. It made for a white knuckle morning commute with multiple accidents reported on icy I-94 between mile markers 95 and 100. One crash shut down the left lane on eastbound I-94 at Capital Avenue.
Normally, highs are supposed to be in the mid 50s this time of year but temperatures are expected to stay well below normal into the weekend. Forecast highs for Thursday and Friday are expected to be around 40. Highs are expected to be only in the mid 30s for the second Saturday of April.
