LANSING, MI (WTVB) – When the lawyers for Lorinda Swain walk into the State Supreme Court to make their arguments Wednesday morning, they will have the support of some influential backers.
David Moran with the Michigan Innocence Project says a number of prosecutors and a former U.S. Attorney, and even a former Calhoun County Prosecutor has submitted friend of the court briefs supporting their position.
Moran claims that Swain was the victim of an ineffective council and prosecutors who failed to hand over all the potential evidence that might exonerate the woman from Burlington, who was charged with sexually abusing her adopted son. That son has since recanted, and other witnesses have come forward who did not testify at her trial.
Oral arguments will be heard Wednesday. It may take a few months for the justices to issue an opinion.
