LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan House gave final approval on Thursday to a bill co-sponsored by Republican State Representative Eric Leutheuser of Hillsdale which will allow agricultural drivers to renew their seasonal commercial driver’s licenses at the start of the planting season.
The bill is now on its way to Gov. Rick Snyder for his signature.
Leutheuser says House Bill 4577 ensures drivers have some flexibility in obtaining licenses.
He stated in a news release issued by his office that “this issue was brought to my attention by a constituent that has seasonal employment. We found the current law prevents some drivers from renewing their licenses in a timely fashion if a planting season starts early. This bill provides flexibility so agricultural drivers can go to work when there is a need for their skills.”
Under the bill, a CDL could be renewed once during a calendar year.
