COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Administrator Bud Norman reported to the Board of Commissioners during their work session on Thursday that the closing on the old Lakeland School property on Otis Road took place on June 30, 2023.
The County received $250,000 in the cash sale from local businessman Wade Longstreet for 35 acres of property.
Norman said the County will still be responsible for maintaining five acres of land which is the 911 tower site.
In addition, a mobile classroom on the county’s property will need to be demolished, as it has been deemed unsafe.
Coldwater Community Schools sold the building and land to Branch County in May of 2021 for $150,000.
The old Lakeland School south of Coldwater closed in April of 2021 following almost 60 years of service after the new fourth and fifth grade Lakeland School was built on Western Avenue in Coldwater.
