COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Now that work on the Coldwater River bridge has shifted to the south side, the City of Coldwater is urging boaters to avoid passing under the bridge.
There is a barge under the south side of the bridge catching debris from the demolition which could make travel under the bridge difficult and potentially dangerous.
If passage is necessary, the city is asking boaters to please proceed with caution.
The Michigan Department of Transportation $2-point-4 million project started on May 1 after being discussed for several years.
Traffic is restricted to one lane in each direction on U.S. 12 near the Coldwater River bridge while the road and bridge work is taking place.
Drivers have been asked to use caution when driving on U.S. 12 west of Western Avenue while the work is in progress.
Work includes approach and bridge repairs over the Coldwater River, as well as milling and resurfacing, joint repairs, guardrail, and concrete sidewalk improvements.
A temporary signal at the Coldwater Bridge has been installed while the bridge is being repaired. The estimated end date for the project is November 17.
