COLDWATER, MI (WTVB AM/FM) – Thunderstorms that produced rotation on radar prompted the National Weather Service to issue two separate Tornado Warnings late Wednesday night in Branch County.
The first was issued shortly after 11:00 p.m. for northern Branch County and the Coldwater area, after rotation was seen in thunderstorm in the Colon area. St. Joseph County emergency services officials said two barns suffered damage in that storm and they believe a tornado touched down near Colon.
Just as that Tornado Warning was expiring, a new warning was issued for eastern Branch County, including the Quincy area, and parts of Hillsdale County. That warning expired at 12:15 a.m. Thursday.
Branch County had also been under a Tornado Watch from 8:55 p.m. Wednesday, but that was canceled shortly after midnight Thursday morning.
There appears to have been no major damage from the thunderstorms, but as of this morning 1,484 Consumers Energy customers in the Gilead and Noble Township areas south of U.S. 12 are without power. Another small pocket of homes in the Colon area are also without power this morning.
