BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Statistics from the Michigan Secretary of State’s office on Friday show that nearly 21 percent of the registered voters in Branch County have already cast their absentee ballot ahead of next Tuesday’s General Election.
There are 33,707 registered voters in Branch County and 25-point-5 percent of them have requested an absentee ballot. As of Friday, clerks around the county have issued 8,595 absentee ballots with 7,033 having been turned in.
The City of Coldwater has issued 2,510 ballots and figures show 2,056 of them having been turned in at the City Clerk’s office.
The Branch County turnout of registered voters in the last three presidential elections has been rather steady. It was 57 percent in 2016, 54 percent in 2012 and 58 percent in 2008. With the high amount of absentee ballots being requested combined with hotly contested presidential and U.S. Senate races, Branch County’s turnout is expected to be higher on Tuesday.
