BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Pennfield had a happy Homecoming Friday night as they beat Coldwater 46-21 and picked up their first win on their new turf field.
The Panthers took advantage of big plays early and often – none bigger than the opening kickoff, which was returned by Je’Shawn Clark 83 yards for a touchdown. Senior running back Kaidan Guthrie had TD runs of 76 and 48 yards and added a 28-yard pick six. Starting quarterback Isaiah Adams ran for a 31-yard score and threw a 48-yard TD pass to Clark. All told, the Panthers outgained the Cardinals 352-298 as they improved to 3-3 overall, 2-2 in the Interstate 8.
Zach Coffing led the Coldwater offense with 23 carries for 90 yards and two touchdowns; he was also 3/11 passing for 41 yards and two picks. In his first game up from the JV team, Naseem Taha had 7 carries for 64 yards and a score. Kendall Austin and Tre Miller each had 18-yard receptions. Dayton Ennis, Evan Porter, and Jack Ruden had 2 tackles apiece.
The Cardinals dropped to 0-6 overall, 0-3 in league play, and will welcome Jackson Northwest for Homecoming next Friday.
