PARMA, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team finished in a tie for the Interstate 8 Conference title, falling at Parma Western 2-1 Tuesday night.
Both teams finished with 5-1 conference records. Coldwater is now 11-6-1 overall.
The Cardinals took the early lead with a goal from Arif Ahmed with 10:43 to play in the first half, assisted by Nabil Saied.
The lead lasted until 26:03 to play in the game on a penalty kick goal for the Panthers. They scored the winning goal with 18:23 to play in the second half after a scramble in front of the Coldwater goal.
The Cardinals had several chances to tie the score late in the game, including on a missed penalty kick with 12:33 to play, but couldn’t come up with the goal.
Franky Ramos made six saves in goal for Coldwater.
They will travel to Edwardsburg for non-conference action Thursday, before returning home to close out the regular season against Mattawan Saturday.
District post-season play begins next Wednesday, October 11 at St. Joseph.
